So in Catholic culture we have lent - this 40-day period in the spring while we wait for The Living God to lay eggs on our mantles and so on - and one of the biggest more-traditionalist Catholic habits in lent is to give up something you indulge in. For most of the young'uns when I was a kid, our parents made us give up candy. 40 days without candy in rural Atlantic Canada was not pleasant in the mind of an eight-year-old, so the parents were always coming up with a way to let us indulge, and we had a centuries-old tradition to encourage just that. I was explaining it to zebrazebrazebra (https://www.deviantart.com/zebrazebrazebra)

Prompt 14: The Conclusion!
In the best traditions of transliterations, we’re a little late with the wrapping up article. We’d hate to disappoint you by being on time. (I'm not as beautifully striped as the usual wrapper-upper but I'll do my best to wrap up regardless. zebrazebrazebra (https://www.deviantart.com/zebrazebrazebra) will be back at the helm soon.)
It was a little over a month ago that we showed you twelve pictures a little like the ones below. We asked you to pick two and translate the space between them.
So you did.
We received a veritable smorgasbord of submissions (seven, specifically). Please take the time to read them:
Please also give some love to the photographers of the pi

A Brief Note on ADHD
Subtitled: Why Self-Diagnosis Is Bad For You, Kids.
First thing's first, Nichrysalis (https://www.deviantart.com/nichrysalis) has an awesome project going on at his journal about disabilities, go give it a read!
However, I've noticed a huge amount of people around - not just there, but on the internet in general - who are claiming to have both Asperger's or another autism spectrum disorder (which are sometimes collectively termed pervasive developmental disorders, medically) in addition to ADHD.
Differential diagnosis is a thing. If you have a condition that is a symptom of a more significant condition, it is not the lesser plus the greater. It is only the greater, with few ex

A few days ago Elocutionists (https://www.deviantart.com/elocutionists) received a huge helping of prize donations for an unnamed contest the likes and scale of which have never been seen on deviantART before. What is it, you ask?
It's a slam. A poetry slam. And it's Louder Than dA Bomb.
A poetry slam is a "no holds barred" spoken word competition. Poets are encouraged to alliterate, rhyme, shout, whisper, zing, compliment, parody, satirize, improvise, recite, quote, play with words and even sing if the opportunity arises.
For the longest time the Elocutionists (https://www.deviantart.com/elocutionists) tea

Communal Karma
Hello there and welcome to the second edition of Communal Karma.
In the Communal Karma series I highlight the devious little squirrels who have suggested literature DD's in the past month. To do this I will collect the names of the suggesters from the past months DD's. I am aware, of course, that many other deviations are being suggested to our lovely and all powerful overlords but I don't have access to those!
The point of this feature is to make those who support the literature community get seen themselves, a karmic reward for doing good and expecting nothing in return. It might also encourage more people to suggest incred

FABULOUS FRIDAY FEATURE
This week, I'm taking a moment to think back on all the pieces I've found in the past few years and featuring my favorites! Yep, that's right, I am attempting to do a survey of my absolute favorite pieces from the past EIGHT YEARS. I know a bunch of these are DDs, and for that I'm sorry, but these are pieces that I find I keep coming back to in order to show people HOW AMAZING they are. Next week, I'll be trying to tackle an immortal theme: DEATH. If you've got someone you think should be featur
